- President of the University of Georgia National Alumni Association, 1994-1996.
- Received the University’s Distinguished Alumni Award, 1995.
- Named Outstanding Alumnus at the Grady College of Journalism, 1988.
- Received the Blue Key Award for Leadership to the State and to the University, 1996.
- Recipient of The Sphinx, the University’s highest non-academic award, 1994.
- Member of the Greek Horsemen and Gridiron.
- C. Richard Yarbrough Public Relations Laboratory at the Grady College of Journalism named in his honor, 1995.
- Emeritus Trustee of The University of Georgia Foundation.
