January 23, 2012 by webmaster Leave a Comment

State School Superintendent John Barge knows what teachers can do, given the opportunity. “A teacher turned my life around,” he said in a recent telephone conversation. Monty Fountain, a teacher and a coach at Alexander High School in Douglas County became a father-figure and set him on his career path. “Given the impact that Coach Fountain had on me, I knew education was what … [Read more...] about January 16, 2012: Georgia’s Education Chief Sees Teachers As ‘Life-Changers’

January 9, 2012: Outback Bowl Proves That Some Phrases Never Go Out Of Style

January 16, 2012 by webmaster Leave a Comment

The folks at Lake Superior State University in Michigan have just released their recommendation for words and phrases that should be erased from our vocabulary in its annual List of Words Banished from the Queen’s English for Misuse, Overuse and General Uselessness. Why Lake Superior State? And why the list? Well, for one thing, they don’t have a football team which gives them … [Read more...] about January 9, 2012: Outback Bowl Proves That Some Phrases Never Go Out Of Style

January 1, 2012: To Cameron: The World May Change But The Fundamentals Remain The Same

January 12, 2012 by webmaster Leave a Comment

I discern that they are finding that life is … [Read more...] about January 1, 2012: To Cameron: The World May Change But The Fundamentals Remain The Same

It is with a great deal of pleasure that I announce the Yarbrough Worldwide Media and Pest Control Company, located over a pool hall in Greater Garfield, has signed an exclusive contract with one of the nation’s premier prognosticators, Plum Nelly Pitts, of Varnell, Georgia. I don’t have to tell you what a coup this is.   Frankly, it was a major commitment by the company but … [Read more...] about January 2, 2012: Plum Nelly Pitts Agrees To Prognosticate In This Space

Dicktations: Here’s What I’m Thinking

State Sen.Steve Gooch, R-Dahlonega, has announced he is running for lieutenant governor.  Gooch is the guy who said that approving permits to strip-mine the Okefenokee for titanium dioxide to manufacture, among other things, toothpaste whitener is not a legislative matter.  It is up to the bureaucrats to decide. This, despite overwhelming opposition from Georgians across the state.  File that away and remember it when it comes time to vote.  I know I will. … [Read More...] about A long memory

Yarbrough received over 1,000 email responses last year – both positive and negative. Though most of the emails he receives support his viewpoints, one thing is for sure: Dick Yarbrough’s column speaks to people and they respond. Here is a sampling of email responses Yarbrough has received in the past:

  • Thanks for writing what we all are thinking.
  • I am annoyed by anybody who presumes to know what Georgians think.  And that, sir, includes you.
