January 26, 2026: Not Much Peaceful About Nobel Peace Prize

February 3, 2026 by webmaster Leave a Comment

Well, one thing you can say for sure, I am in good company.  It looks like I’m not the only one that got hosed by the Nobel Committee.  It seems the president of the U.S. of A was also passed over for the Nobel Peace Prize even though he said he had stopped 8 wars. (It might have been 9, but as of this writing, Minnesota has not surrendered). The Nobelians gave the 2025 … [Read more...] about January 26, 2026: Not Much Peaceful About Nobel Peace Prize

January 18, 2026: The Elephant In The Room?  It’s Our Okefenokee

January 27, 2026 by webmaster Leave a Comment

Don’t look now but there is an elephant in the room.  Well, it’s not a room exactly. It is our state government. And it’s not an elephant, either. It is mining our Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge which they want to pretend isn’t there and wish we would, too. Fat chance. As we all know, the swamp has been a political tug of war over the issue of mining the swamp for … [Read more...] about January 18, 2026: The Elephant In The Room?  It’s Our Okefenokee

January 11, 2026: Some Observations To Share With Three Great-Grandsons

January 20, 2026 by webmaster Leave a Comment

Dear Henry, Noah and Samuel Knox Wansley: It looks like it is your turn to receive some unsolicited advice from an old man who has been dispensing it since your daddy and his cousins were about your age.  That has been a long time.  I’m not sure how much of it they found helpful but I hope some of it stuck. Much of what I have to say to you comes from my own life experiences … [Read more...] about January 11, 2026: Some Observations To Share With Three Great-Grandsons

January 4, 2026: An Invitation For Donald Trump To Address The Captains Of Industry In Ryo, Georgia

January 12, 2026 by webmaster

What a way to start my new year.  A phone call from Skeeter Skates. As you no doubt are aware, Skeeter Skates is the owner and operator of the eponymic Skeeter Skates Tree Stump Removal and Plow Repair, located in Ryo, Georgia, although I would suggest you never use words like eponymic around the man.  Skeeter thinks words over two syllables are the product of a bunch of … [Read more...] about January 4, 2026: An Invitation For Donald Trump To Address The Captains Of Industry In Ryo, Georgia

December 28, 2025: Reporting On Where Those 39,000 Words Went This Year

January 9, 2026 by webmaster Leave a Comment

As we end one year and begin a new one, that means it is time for the annual report required of all card-carrying members of the National Association of Modest-Yet-Much-Beloved Columnists.  Our motto: Sometimes in error, never in doubt. The report is required.  Otherwise, I might lose my credentials and have to get a real job.  The very thought of that keeps me awake at … [Read more...] about December 28, 2025: Reporting On Where Those 39,000 Words Went This Year

Dicktations: Here’s What I’m Thinking

State Sen.Steve Gooch, R-Dahlonega, has announced he is running for lieutenant governor.  Gooch is the guy who said that approving permits to strip-mine the Okefenokee for titanium dioxide to manufacture, among other things, toothpaste whitener is not a legislative matter.  It is up to the bureaucrats to decide. This, despite overwhelming opposition from Georgians across the state.  File that away and remember it when it comes time to vote.  I know I will. … [Read More...] about A long memory

Yarbrough received over 1,000 email responses last year – both positive and negative. Though most of the emails he receives support his viewpoints, one thing is for sure: Dick Yarbrough’s column speaks to people and they respond. Here is a sampling of email responses Yarbrough has received in the past:

  • Thanks for writing what we all are thinking.
  • I am annoyed by anybody who presumes to know what Georgians think.  And that, sir, includes you.
