August 14, 2012 by webmaster Leave a Comment

What in the world was State School Superintendent John Barge thinking when he endorsed the reelection campaign of State Sen. Majority Leader Chip Rogers (R-Woodstock)?  Chip Rogers, in case you are not aware, is not exactly public education’s best friend.  Rogers talks about education “being in his blood” and then proceeds to bleed public schools by promoting a variety of … [Read more...] about August 6, 2012: School Superintendent’s Endorsement Of Chip Rogers Raises Questions

July 30, 2012: Watching The London Olympics 16 Years After The Atlanta Games

August 6, 2012 by webmaster Leave a Comment

Hard to believe, but it has been 16 years since the Olympic Games were held in our state. As I watch the festivities in London, I remembered the phone calls I had received over the past year from media members in Great Britain, asking me if I had any thoughts on what was going to happen when the Games began in London. Here is what I told them: The athletes will perform … [Read more...] about July 30, 2012: Watching The London Olympics 16 Years After The Atlanta Games

July 23, 2012: Recent Trip A Reminder To Take Nothing For Granted

July 30, 2012 by webmaster Leave a Comment

Recent Trip A Reminder To Take Nothing For Granted I have just returned from a memorable trip to Valdosta. I went there to speak to the Rotary Club. The members laughed in all the right places which not only was memorable, but downright remarkable. What made the trip even more special were two visits I made while there. I dropped by to see my beloved college professor, … [Read more...] about July 23, 2012: Recent Trip A Reminder To Take Nothing For Granted

July 16, 2012: Being a Certified Modest and Much-Beloved Columnist No Easy Task

July 23, 2012 by webmaster Leave a Comment

Would you allow an unlicensed electrician to install a bug zapper in your living room? Would you let an unlicensed plumber unclog the throne in your reading room? Would you give an unlicensed pilot permission to take you for a spin in his Sopwith Camel and allow an unlicensed insurance agent to sell your Significant Other a policy that would encourage you to do just that? If … [Read more...] about July 16, 2012: Being a Certified Modest and Much-Beloved Columnist No Easy Task

July 9, 2012: Plum Nelly Pitts Says Higgs Boson Won’t Fix Stupid

July 17, 2012 by webmaster Leave a Comment

News bulletin: Scientists working at the world's biggest atom smasher near Geneva have announced the discovery of a new subatomic particle that looks remarkably like the long-sought Higgs boson. Sometimes called the "God particle" because its existence is fundamental to the creation of the universe, the hunt for the Higgs involved thousands of scientists from all over the … [Read more...] about July 9, 2012: Plum Nelly Pitts Says Higgs Boson Won’t Fix Stupid

Dicktations: Here’s What I’m Thinking

State Sen.Steve Gooch, R-Dahlonega, has announced he is running for lieutenant governor.  Gooch is the guy who said that approving permits to strip-mine the Okefenokee for titanium dioxide to manufacture, among other things, toothpaste whitener is not a legislative matter.  It is up to the bureaucrats to decide. This, despite overwhelming opposition from Georgians across the state.  File that away and remember it when it comes time to vote.  I know I will. … [Read More...] about A long memory

Yarbrough received over 1,000 email responses last year – both positive and negative. Though most of the emails he receives support his viewpoints, one thing is for sure: Dick Yarbrough’s column speaks to people and they respond. Here is a sampling of email responses Yarbrough has received in the past:

  • Thanks for writing what we all are thinking.
  • I am annoyed by anybody who presumes to know what Georgians think.  And that, sir, includes you.
