June 27, 2016: Two State Senators Who Give Politics a Good Name

July 4, 2016 by webmaster Leave a Comment

This is a bit weird.  I find myself in the position of having to defend politicians. Well, not all of them, just the good ones. The subject came up recently about my precocious great grandson Cameron Charles Yarbrough, who is seven, going on thirty-seven.  Cameron never meets a stranger, acts more adult than many adults and has charisma to burn. Someone remarked that he was a … [Read more...] about June 27, 2016: Two State Senators Who Give Politics a Good Name

June 20, 2016: This Sebastian is the Real Deal and That’s No Joke

June 29, 2016 by webmaster Leave a Comment

I don’t know how schoolteachers manage to do what they do and do it as well as they do, given the obstacles tossed in their way by politicians, bureaucrats, special interest groups, ideologues, social experimenters and assorted other navel-gazers– none of whom could carry their book bag.   They sure don’t do it for the financial reward. That, we save for semi-articulate … [Read more...] about June 20, 2016: This Sebastian is the Real Deal and That’s No Joke

June 13, 2016: Junior E. Lee Talks About What Bugs Him This Election Year

June 20, 2016 by webmaster Leave a Comment

I had hoped to catch you up on the current status of the presidential race before now but in order to do so, I needed to talk first with Junior E. Lee, general manager of the Yarbrough Worldwide Media and Pest Control Company, located in Garfield, Georgia. Junior E. Lee not only oversees our company’s much-admired and oft-quoted political polling service, Round or Square … [Read more...] about June 13, 2016: Junior E. June 7, 2016: UGA Athletic Director Does Right Thing the Right Way

June 9, 2016 by webmaster Leave a Comment

I haven’t met UGA Athletic Director Greg McGarity but I give him high marks for the way in which he has handled the blowback from the ludicrous Ludacris debacle. Evidently, he heard from a lot of you who were appalled at the idea of giving the rapper $65,000 to perform for 15 minutes during the G-Day Game last month but were stupefied at the additional demands contained in a … [Read more...] about June 7, 2016: UGA Athletic Director Does Right Thing the Right Way

May 31, 2016: What’s In a Name? Ask Cameron — or Maybe Not

June 7, 2016 by webmaster Leave a Comment

It is the policy of this modest and much-beloved columnist to give you in-depth analysis of the really important issues taking place in our nation. I will leave presidential politics to the New York Times who think their sweat doesn’t stink and that guy on MSNBC who looks like the Pillsbury Doughboy. Here we cover just the big stuff. For example, did you know that the most … [Read more...] about May 31, 2016: What’s In a Name? Ask Cameron — or Maybe Not

Dicktations: Here’s What I’m Thinking

State Sen.Steve Gooch, R-Dahlonega, has announced he is running for lieutenant governor.  Gooch is the guy who said that approving permits to strip-mine the Okefenokee for titanium dioxide to manufacture, among other things, toothpaste whitener is not a legislative matter.  It is up to the bureaucrats to decide. This, despite overwhelming opposition from Georgians across the state.  File that away and remember it when it comes time to vote.  I know I will. … [Read More...] about A long memory

Yarbrough received over 1,000 email responses last year – both positive and negative. Though most of the emails he receives support his viewpoints, one thing is for sure: Dick Yarbrough’s column speaks to people and they respond. Here is a sampling of email responses Yarbrough has received in the past:

  • Thanks for writing what we all are thinking.
  • I am annoyed by anybody who presumes to know what Georgians think.  And that, sir, includes you.
