April 18, 2016: State Senator Defends Religious Freedom Legislative Efforts

April 25, 2016 by webmaster Leave a Comment

A couple of weeks ago, I was highly critical of the efforts of proponents of the Religious Freedom Restoration Act and particularly of State Sen. Josh McKoon (R-Columbus.)  The senator did a smart thing: He reached out and asked for the opportunity to explain his position directly to you. After the cuffing he took, I figured I owed him that. Here is what he had to say:  There … [Read more...] about April 18, 2016: State Senator Defends Religious Freedom Legislative Efforts

April 11, 2016: Georgia’s 181st School District Making A Difference In Young Lives

April 19, 2016 by webmaster Leave a Comment

Even the most casual reader of this space knows that I am bullish on public education. But there is one school system in Georgia that I haven’t talked about much even though it is near and dear to my heart. It is the Georgia Preparatory Academy, the state’s 181st school district and a part of the Department of Juvenile Justice, on whose board I have had the pleasure to serve … [Read more...] about April 11, 2016: Georgia’s 181st School District Making A Difference In Young Lives

April 4, 2016: Some Thoughts on Why Religious Freedom Bill Failed

April 11, 2016 by webmaster Leave a Comment

Before you get your shorts in a wad, the following observations in no way indicate my preference for or opposition to the recent Religious Freedom bill vetoed by Gov. Nathan Deal. My personal opinions are irrelevant to this discussion. Rather, this is a refresher course in Politics 101.   In a democracy, there are only two ways a political decision can be made: The … [Read more...] about April 4, 2016: Some Thoughts on Why Religious Freedom Bill Failed

March 28, 2016: Sharing Life’s Bumps And Bruises With Friends

April 5, 2016 by webmaster Leave a Comment

She is not going to be pleased that I have told you this but we are all family here, even if some of you consider me the illegitimate stepson of the weird cousin that talks with his mouth full. So you might as hear it from me that the Woman Who Shares My Name has fallen – again – and broken her leg – again – and I am left to wonder – again – if we are the featured characters … [Read more...] about March 28, 2016: Sharing Life’s Bumps And Bruises With Friends

March 21, 2016: Remembering What Easter Is Really About

April 1, 2016 by webmaster Leave a Comment

Continuing a long-standing Easter Week tradition in this space. I wish I had been there. In Jerusalem. With Jesus. I wish I could have witnessed the events of a week that changed the world forever. I wish I could have accompanied Jesus into the city as he rode astride a donkey and watched the crowds throw their cloaks before him, cheering the man they thought had come to … [Read more...] about March 21, 2016: Remembering What Easter Is Really About

Dicktations: Here’s What I’m Thinking

State Sen.Steve Gooch, R-Dahlonega, has announced he is running for lieutenant governor.  Gooch is the guy who said that approving permits to strip-mine the Okefenokee for titanium dioxide to manufacture, among other things, toothpaste whitener is not a legislative matter.  It is up to the bureaucrats to decide. This, despite overwhelming opposition from Georgians across the state.  File that away and remember it when it comes time to vote.  I know I will. … [Read More...] about A long memory

Yarbrough received over 1,000 email responses last year – both positive and negative. Though most of the emails he receives support his viewpoints, one thing is for sure: Dick Yarbrough’s column speaks to people and they respond. Here is a sampling of email responses Yarbrough has received in the past:

  • Thanks for writing what we all are thinking.
  • I am annoyed by anybody who presumes to know what Georgians think.  And that, sir, includes you.
