September 25, 2017: Never Too Early to Think About How You Want to Be Remembered

October 2, 2017 by webmaster Leave a Comment

Do me a favor, will you?  I would greatly appreciate it if you would see that my obituary gets printed as is, just in case I happen to kick the bucket or cash in my chips or buy the farm or any other euphemism that you deem appropriate for the occasion.  Let me say emphatically that I have no plans to die anytime soon.  I have sock drawers to rearrange, … [Read more...] about September 25, 2017: Never Too Early to Think About How You Want to Be Remembered

September 18, 2017: Some Reflections On An Ill Wind Named Irma

September 25, 2017 by webmaster Leave a Comment

It is hard to know what to write about when you have been through the likes of Irma.  Maybe it was “only” a tropical storm when it hit Georgia and not the powerful hurricane that ripped through Florida, but it was bad enough as many of you can attest.  I will return to my acerbic humor roots soon, I promise, but not today.  Nothing funny about disasters. If Irma … [Read more...] about September 18, 2017: Some Reflections On An Ill Wind Named Irma

September 11, 2017: Honoring the Memory of a Special Person in a Special Way

September 18, 2017 by webmaster Leave a Comment

This week marks the ninth anniversary of the loss of our oldest grandson, Zack Wansley.  And, yes, it hurts as much today as on the day he collapsed and died while training for a marathon. Zack was special.  He was a true scholar-athlete.  He was president of just about every significant organization in his high school. He won the Journal Cup as his school’s … [Read more...] about September 11, 2017: Honoring the Memory of a Special Person in a Special Way

July 10, 2017: This Recruit Blows Off the Opportunity to Blow Up

July 17, 2017 by webmaster Leave a Comment

KNOCK! KNOCK! “Sir, you wanted to see me?” “Hello, Kharbhom!  Glad you could spare a few minutes.  Come into the cave.  Don’t mind the goats.” “Thank you, sir.  I was told it was important.  I came over as quickly as I could.” “Kharbhom, I will get right to the point.  I have been watching you closely and I can tell you I like what I see.  … [Read more...] about July 10, 2017: This Recruit Blows Off the Opportunity to Blow Up

July 3, 2017: Skeeter Skates Learns About Face Paint and Twerping

July 10, 2017 by webmaster Leave a Comment

I don’t need Caller ID to know when Skeeter Skates is calling.  The phone has a different kind of sound to it, like very impatient.  That’s to be expected.  Skeeter Skates, owner of Skeeter Skates Plow Repair and Stump Removal in Ryo, Georgia, is an impatient man.  I guess it goes with the business. Skeeter isn’t big on preambles.  Before I could even … [Read more...] about July 3, 2017: Skeeter Skates Learns About Face Paint and Twerping

Dicktations: Here’s What I’m Thinking

State Sen.Steve Gooch, R-Dahlonega, has announced he is running for lieutenant governor.  Gooch is the guy who said that approving permits to strip-mine the Okefenokee for titanium dioxide to manufacture, among other things, toothpaste whitener is not a legislative matter.  It is up to the bureaucrats to decide. This, despite overwhelming opposition from Georgians across the state.  File that away and remember it when it comes time to vote.  I know I will. … [Read More...] about A long memory

Yarbrough received over 1,000 email responses last year – both positive and negative. Though most of the emails he receives support his viewpoints, one thing is for sure: Dick Yarbrough’s column speaks to people and they respond. Here is a sampling of email responses Yarbrough has received in the past:

  • Thanks for writing what we all are thinking.
  • I am annoyed by anybody who presumes to know what Georgians think.  And that, sir, includes you.
