September 7, 2025: A Semi-Intelligent Look At Artificial Intelligence

September 17, 2025 by webmaster Leave a Comment

Dr. Geoffrey Hinton, is a British-Canadian cognitive psychologist and computer scientist who won the Nobel Prize in Physics last year “for foundational discoveries and inventions that enable machine learning with artificial neural networks.”  Between you and me, I got hosed. I should have been a winner. The Nobel committee obviously overlooked my own entry entitled, “One … [Read more...] about September 7, 2025: A Semi-Intelligent Look At Artificial Intelligence

August 31, 2025: September Brings A Time Of Reflection

September 9, 2025 by webmaster Leave a Comment

September is a reflective month for me. Most of the year is behind me with just a few months left to go. What have I accomplished thus far this year and what do I have left to do? Same with life.  I am past the September of my years with no idea how much time there is ahead.  I can’t get back my yesterdays but, hopefully, I can learn from them and do a better job with my … [Read more...] about August 31, 2025: September Brings A Time Of Reflection

August 24, 2025: Some Presidential Thoughts From Skeeter Skates And Ryo Morning Coffee Club

September 2, 2025 by webmaster Leave a Comment

When I saw the phone jump off the cradle, I knew who it was.  Skeeter Skates, owner of Skeeter Skates Tree Stump Removal and Plow Repair in Ryo, Georgia. Skeeter has that effect on people and on telephones, as well. In addition to being a leader in the stump removal and plow repair industry,  Skeeter also currently serves as chair of the Ryo Morning Coffee Club, a collection … [Read more...] about August 24, 2025: Some Presidential Thoughts From Skeeter Skates And Ryo Morning Coffee Club

August 17, 2025: Some Thoughts On Going Away To College From One Who Did

August 27, 2025 by webmaster Leave a Comment

I remember it as if it were yesterday.  In fact, it has been a lot of yesterdays – and I mean a lot – since I first walked on the campus at the University of Georgia.  My parents dropped me off at my dorm and headed back to East Point some 70 miles away.  It could have 7 thousand miles, given the loneliness and isolation I felt. My initial thought was that I had made a … [Read more...] about August 17, 2025: Some Thoughts On Going Away To College From One Who Did

August 10, 2025: Sorry, Mr. President But You Have The Wrong Number

August 19, 2025 by webmaster Leave a Comment

Oh.  If I was the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, I might want to get out of town real soon or preferably out of the country.  Maybe even hitch a ride on one of Elon Musk’s rockets and cool it in outer space for a while.  They are about to feel the Wrath of Trump, which makes the Wrath of Khan look like a sandbox pout. The university released a poll last week showing … [Read more...] about August 10, 2025: Sorry, Mr. President But You Have The Wrong Number

Dicktations: Here’s What I’m Thinking

State Sen.Steve Gooch, R-Dahlonega, has announced he is running for lieutenant governor.  Gooch is the guy who said that approving permits to strip-mine the Okefenokee for titanium dioxide to manufacture, among other things, toothpaste whitener is not a legislative matter.  It is up to the bureaucrats to decide. This, despite overwhelming opposition from Georgians across the state.  File that away and remember it when it comes time to vote.  I know I will. … [Read More...] about A long memory

Yarbrough received over 1,000 email responses last year – both positive and negative. Though most of the emails he receives support his viewpoints, one thing is for sure: Dick Yarbrough’s column speaks to people and they respond. Here is a sampling of email responses Yarbrough has received in the past:

  • Thanks for writing what we all are thinking.
  • I am annoyed by anybody who presumes to know what Georgians think.  And that, sir, includes you.
