April 26, 2026: Don’t Look Now But The Political Silly Season Is Upon Us

May 4, 2026 by webmaster Leave a Comment

Welcome to Silly Season, when our intrepid public servants as well as those who would wish to be dominate our TVs with their ads, clutter our street corners with their yard signs, show up to press the flesh while we are trying to eat breakfast at our favorite diner, flood our mailboxes with flyers and go online to hit us up for dough. As your modest-yet-much-beloved servant, … [Read more...] about April 26, 2026: Don’t Look Now But The Political Silly Season Is Upon Us

April 19, 2026: A Tale Of War, Of Passports And Good Constituent Service

April 27, 2026 by webmaster Leave a Comment

While most of us have viewed the war with Iran on television from the comfort of our home, to Shelly Corgel in Cobb County, it has been up-close-and-personal.  Her daughter, Leah,  has lived and worked in Abu Dhabi,  the capital of the United Arab Emirates, for the past 10 years. For security reasons, I have agreed not to get into the details of her work.  Suffice it to say it … [Read more...] about April 19, 2026: A Tale Of War, Of Passports And Good Constituent Service

April 12, 2026: Some Sweet News: Vidalia Onions Are Coming To Town

April 21, 2026 by webmaster Leave a Comment

This is a high and holy time.  As you read this words, Vidalia onions are being shipped across the nation from sea to shining sea.  If you aren’t from around these parts, let me tell you what we natives already know.  There is nothing like a Vidalia onion. They are sweet enough that you can eat them like an apple and in this whole wide world, they are grown in just 20 counties … [Read more...] about April 12, 2026: Some Sweet News: Vidalia Onions Are Coming To Town

April 5, 2026: The Proposal May Be Cheap But Not The Commitment

April 13, 2026 by webmaster Leave a Comment

If you are looking at how oil at $110 a barrel and gas approaching $5 a gallon will Make America Great Again, I refer you to the Trump Toadies on Fox News.  I am sure they can explain it.  They might even possibly believe it. On the other hand, if you think boys-turned-into-girls should be allowed to compete in women’s sports – an issue that affects a whopping 0.002% of U.S. … [Read more...] about April 5, 2026: The Proposal May Be Cheap But Not The Commitment

March 29, 2026: Going Back to A Hometown That Is No Longer Home

April 9, 2026 by webmaster Leave a Comment

The American novelist Thomas Wolfe wrote, "You Can't Go Home Again." He was correct.  You can’t.  I tried it along with my friend, Philip. A near-fatal attack of sepsis has made driving an automobile a challenge for me and a firm no-no to my kids.  Through a mutual friend, I was introduced to Philip who has driven for some of the rich and famous and has been kind enough to … [Read more...] about March 29, 2026: Going Back to A Hometown That Is No Longer Home

Dicktations: Here’s What I’m Thinking

State Sen.Steve Gooch, R-Dahlonega, has announced he is running for lieutenant governor.  Gooch is the guy who said that approving permits to strip-mine the Okefenokee for titanium dioxide to manufacture, among other things, toothpaste whitener is not a legislative matter.  It is up to the bureaucrats to decide. This, despite overwhelming opposition from Georgians across the state.  File that away and remember it when it comes time to vote.  I know I will. … [Read More...] about A long memory

Yarbrough received over 1,000 email responses last year – both positive and negative. Though most of the emails he receives support his viewpoints, one thing is for sure: Dick Yarbrough’s column speaks to people and they respond. Here is a sampling of email responses Yarbrough has received in the past:

  • Thanks for writing what we all are thinking.
  • I am annoyed by anybody who presumes to know what Georgians think.  And that, sir, includes you.
