March 30, 2025: Legislature Passed The Buck Again On Our Okefenokee

April 6, 2025 by webmaster

Nada. Nil. Zip. Zero.  So went the discussions in the just-concluded session of the Legislature regarding the possible permitting by the Georgia Environmental Protection Division (and, yes, continue to insert oxymoron here until further notice) to drag mine Trail Ridge, at the edge of our Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge, for titanium dioxide in order that We the People … [Read more...] about March 30, 2025: Legislature Passed The Buck Again On Our Okefenokee

March 23, 2025: If We Can’t Be Happy, Can We Just Annex Finland?

March 31, 2025 by webmaster

Perhaps you are not familiar with the World Happiness Report that ranks countries on how happy their citizens are.  The release of the 13th edition of the annual report this year coincided with March 20th, United Nations International Day of Happiness, which probably made a lot of people unhappy because they don’t like anything having to do with the U.N. Anyway, Finland has … [Read more...] about March 23, 2025: If We Can’t Be Happy, Can We Just Annex Finland?

March 9, 2025: Watching The Pendulum Swing Along The Political Spectrum

March 16, 2025 by webmaster Leave a Comment

Like the late baseball great Billy Martin used to say in the beer commercials, I feel strongly both ways. For me, it’s not about the beer.  It is about one-issue, my-way-or-the-highway groups on both ends of the political spectrum.  I have no patience with those who see only one side of an issue, whatever it may be.  Yet, they provide me so much column fodder that I don’t have … [Read more...] about March 9, 2025: Watching The Pendulum Swing Along The Political Spectrum

March 2, 2025: Legislators Propose Bills To Address Okefenokee Mining Controversy

March 11, 2025 by webmaster Leave a Comment

Don’t get your hopes up but a couple of bills have surfaced in the Legislature, addressing the Georgia Environmental Protection Division (insert oxymoron here) giving approval for Alabama-based Twin Pines Minerals to mine a 584-acre tract of Trail Ridge, on the eastern flank of our Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge for titanium oxide so that we never face the prospects of … [Read more...] about March 2, 2025: Legislators Propose Bills To Address Okefenokee Mining Controversy

February 23, 2025: Joining Those Who Are Saying Goodbye To DEI

March 4, 2025 by webmaster Leave a Comment

Uh. Oh.  This column as you read it may never be the same again.  I’m not talking about finally figuring out where commas go.  That will never change.  No, I am talking about my Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) Initiatives.  I am afraid I am going to have to dismantle that sucker.  Otherwise, I may find myself on Donald Trump’s naughty list and like the Associated Press, … [Read more...] about February 23, 2025: Joining Those Who Are Saying Goodbye To DEI

Dicktations: Here’s What I’m Thinking

State Sen.Steve Gooch, R-Dahlonega, has announced he is running for lieutenant governor.  Gooch is the guy who said that approving permits to strip-mine the Okefenokee for titanium dioxide to manufacture, among other things, toothpaste whitener is not a legislative matter.  It is up to the bureaucrats to decide. This, despite overwhelming opposition from Georgians across the state.  File that away and remember it when it comes time to vote.  I know I will. … [Read More...] about A long memory

Yarbrough received over 1,000 email responses last year – both positive and negative. Though most of the emails he receives support his viewpoints, one thing is for sure: Dick Yarbrough’s column speaks to people and they respond. Here is a sampling of email responses Yarbrough has received in the past:

  • Thanks for writing what we all are thinking.
  • I am annoyed by anybody who presumes to know what Georgians think.  And that, sir, includes you.
